The Mirror

The Mirror

In Basera-e-Tabbasum, a sanctuary for orphaned Kashmiri girls, one stands on the cusp of womanhood, her dreams veiled yet brimming with curiosity. Amidst the poignant backdrop of fleeting childhood, some clutch faded photographs, while others dread the arrival of distant kin. In the embrace of nature's bounty—fields of peas, babbling streams—they navigate the nuances of hijab, their laughter intertwined with fleeting moments of sorrow.

Each face from Kashmir finds solace within a 2.5-inch mirror, a symbol of fragile self-perception amid societal challenges. Through these reflections, the project beckons viewers to contemplate the enduring impact of injustices against women in the valley.
